Job Description You will design, build, and scale our platform using AI-native development practices. Required Experience And Qualifications • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production applications, or equivalent education. • Demonstrated AI-native development experience, including agentic coding, multi-agent orchestration, AI-generated testing, and automated code review. • Strong full-stack engineering experience, with expertise in Ruby on Rails and PostgreSQL highly preferred. • Proficiency in Python and experience building large language model-powered applications, agents, or AI workflows. • Production experience with Google Cloud Platform, Vertex AI, Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code. • Experience developing application programming interfaces, third-party integrations, automated continuous integration and deployment pipelines, and secure cloud applications. • Strong system design, troubleshooting, communication, and independent problem-solving skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with weekly production releases. What we are looking for: We are looking for a Staff or Principal Software Engineer to lead the engineering of our On-Demand module, the part of the Works platform that lets hospitals fill open shifts with their own workforce. You will own the module end to end, from ingesting demand out of hospital workforce-management systems through shift matching, incentive pricing, and the mobile experience nurses use to claim shifts, and you will work as a pair with the On-Demand Product Manager to shape what we build and why. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience, including several years owning production Ruby on Rails and React systems at Staff level or above, deep experience with third-party integrations, and a record of setting engineering standards other teams adopt. Beyond technical depth, we value ownership of outcomes, the ability to design out recurring failures, mentoring that grows the engineers around you, and clear communication with product, business, and leadership. This position is remote, however, applicants must be based in Brazil and fluent in both English and Portuguese. Your responsibilities: • Own the architecture, technical roadmap, and operational health of the On-Demand module: demand ingestion from UKG and ShiftWizard, shift gaps and matching, claim eligibility, incentive pricing, FTE attainment, timecard audits, and the GraphQL API used by web and mobile. • Pair with the On-Demand Product Manager on discovery, roadmap, and trade-offs, bringing an engineering perspective on cost, risk, and sequencing. • Lead design reviews and write architecture decision records; ensure architecture consistency across the pod and with neighboring teams. • Deliver platform improvements (observability, testing strategy, CI/CD, data pipelines, integration frameworks) that make other squads more productive. • Design out recurring production failures; own the hardest on-call and production issues and set up alerting before issues reach customers. • Mentor engineers in the pod, raise the bar in code review, and grow the next generation of senior engineers. • Approach all engineering work with a security and data-protection lens appropriate to healthcare data. • Use AI-assisted development fluently and coach the team on responsible, high-judgment use. • Communicate clearly and proactively with engineering, product, business, and leadership. About The Role The AI Quality engineering team at Circle owns the foundation for measuring, diagnosing, and improving the quality of Circle's AI-powered features. This team focuses on building the infrastructure to measure, diagnose, and improve production AI systems, rather than ML research or model training. We're looking for a Lead Engineer to help us build out the evaluation frameworks, observability tooling, and diagnostic infrastructure that tell us whether our AI Agents are working well, where to improve them, and how to make them faster and more cost-efficient. This is a hands-on player-coach role. You’ll also lead and manage the AI Quality engineering team, with an ambitious and growing roadmap. If you're excited about making AI systems work reliably, efficiently, and at scale, this is for you. What You'll Be Doing • Build and own our evaluation infrastructure. Design the CI/CD pipelines, scorers, and datasets that tell us whether Circle's AI agents (planners, tool-callers, and sub-agents) are actually working, from a single tool call to a full multi-turn conversation. • Diagnose exactly where quality breaks down. Trace failures across the agent pipeline including plan creation vs. execution, tool selection, tool trajectory in complex areas like workflows, site builder, and analytics. Turn what you find into prototypes that solve the issue or identify priorities for AI core engineering can help. • Grow the datasets that make evaluation possible. Stand up annotation workflows and build out AI-generated and simulated conversations so we can cover more of the product faster than manual labeling alone. • Run structured experiments across prompts, models, and the agent harness. Evaluate new and open-source models against our production baseline, build the framework we use to decide when to shift models, and chase cost and latency wins through model swaps, caching, and routing by plan complexity. • Lead and grow the AI Quality engineering team. Set technical direction and manage day-to-day priorities, all while staying hands-on in the code yourself. • Partner closely with AI Core engineering. Work with the engineers building Circle's AI products so they have real confidence that their changes are actually improving quality, not just shipping. What You'll Need To Be Successful • 7+ years of experience building and shipping production software, ideally including LLM-powered agents that take real actions in a product. You've worked on complex, tool-using systems (multiple tools, planning or orchestration, sub-agents) not just simple, single-turn assistants, and you can walk us through something you shipped and how you knew it was actually working. • Comfortable in Ruby on Rails / Python or ready to pick them up quickly. Ruby on Rails is our production system and the foundation that Circle’s AI Agents are built on and proficiency in Python is a strong plus, especially for the data and evaluation side of the work. • Experience building evaluation or observability infrastructure for ML/AI systems. You've built eval pipelines, scorers, dashboards, or CI/CD for evals before and have experience with evaluation frameworks like Braintrust, LangSmith, or similar. • Experience designing datasets, annotation workflows, or labeling pipelines for ML/AI evaluation. About your TeamThe commerce pod manages all aspects of payment processing, financial transactions, and third-party integrations on a global scale. In this position, you will work remotely with Teachable’s US-based teams as well as Hotmart employees based in Belo Horizonte and São Paulo. We are hiring talented engineers in Brazil. What is the role? We’re looking to bring on a Software Engineer II with full-stack (front-end leaning OR only front-end) experience who is curious, action-oriented with a growth mindset to join our team. You will be responsible for writing, testing, and deploying Javascript and Ruby code. Breaking down epics into smaller user stories and tasks. Participating in team sprint rituals (stand-up, planning, refinement, retro). On our teams, everyone has the opportunity to share ideas, bring new solutions, and discuss them with other well-experienced engineers. We expect all team members to contribute to our collaborative team culture. In this role, you’ll be able to have a direct impact on projects in an area that is customer-focused, using creativity to navigate through ambiguity. You will partner with a product engineering team of engineers, Product Designer and Product Manager. You will report to the Engineering Manager. We are hiring talented engineers in Brazil. You'll be working on a team of U.S. and Brazil-based technologists. This contract is CLT and paid in $BRL. What You'll Do: • Write secure, efficient, and high-quality code that adheres to best practices, such as encryption of sensitive data and input validation. • Develop scalable and reusable code that promotes efficient development, such as creating reusable libraries and components. • Identify areas for improvement in the codebase and take ownership of small-to-medium-sized systems, such as fixing bugs and optimizing performance. • Quickly understand documentation and utilize testing techniques, such as unit testing, integration testing, and stress testing, to ensure high-quality code. • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders, such as providing regular status updates and actively seeking feedback. • Adapt to roadblocks and proactively resolve issues, such as debugging and troubleshooting. • Align work with customer value by using feedback to prioritize features. • Balance priorities and seek guidance when needed to make informed decisions. About you: • 2+ years of hands-on full-stack experience building production web applications in an agile, startup environment. • Proficiency in JavaScript, React, and CSS.
